It is likely that some of
the objectives will require a corrective action plan (CAP). This
will occur when a non-compliant response to a metric question has been
recorded. You must enter a corrective action plan in order for
the response to be complete. Answering NO to any of the NIMS
metrics will result in a red highlighted message requesting a CAP. The response cannot be submitted as
a rollup until all fields of the corrective action are filled in. A
corrective action plan captures the following:
- Reason for non-compliance
- Corrective action to be taken
- Expected date of compliance
- Point of contact (identity the
individual responsible for executing the action)
Here are some important strategies for
dealing with non-compliance responses:
- Corrective action should be realistic
and achievable (specific, measurable, etc.).
- Avoid unrealistic expected dates of
compliance (unless otherwise provided for, put the completion date out
at least twelve months).
- If appropriate, note in the action plan
the resources that may be needed to accomplish it.
The reports (rollups) are seen by several
agencies (FEMA, Washington State Homeland Security Region 2, etc.).
An automatic review is triggered when your expected date of compliance is
reached. If your CAP is not executed by your expected date of
compliance, it may be because you didn't the resources identified in the
initial response (such as access to the required classes, etc.).
Some implementation strategies may require
referencing your emergency plan, working with other agencies, including participation emergency management
planning and exercises. This department will help you achieve those
shared objectives. The
Jefferson County Comprehensive
Emergency Management Plan may be a useful reference for this purpose.
