WHAT "NIXLE" MEANS TO JEFFERSON COUNTY AND PORT TOWNSEND . . .
A messaging technology (called NIXLE) is being used in Jefferson County to send local alerts and advisories directly to subscribers. A text-enabled cell phone or mobile device is all you need to receive ALERTS and ADVISORIES notices. There is no charge for this service (the normal text message fees that your phone service may charge may apply). Messages via NIXLE are *from a certified source. Our NIXLE account is JEFFERSON COUNTY WA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT*. When you subscribe to this account, you will only receive verified messages from the Dept. of Emergency Management. WHAT MESSAGES WILL BE SENT . . .
The Department of Emergency Management is the "gatekeeper" for local NIXLE messages. Agencies using NIXLE include the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Port Townsend Police Department, and County and City government. NIXLE will also be used to relay important information from other emergency response agencies as needed, such as local fire departments. xxx
MESSAGE PRIORITIES . . .
LEVEL	TYPICAL MESSAGE CONTENT
ALERT	Urgent information; significant in-progress events; the highest priority; ALERT level will be used for emergencies requiring immediate attention.
ADVISORY	Important information where vigilance and awareness are necessary; does not have the immediate importance or time sensitivity of an ALERT; may include major road closures.
COMMUNITY	Messages of general community or neighborhood interest; not news releases that can be circulated by routine means; lowest priority; "other" notices.
